T-Shirt Fundraiser a Success!

Before the t-shirt fundraiser began, I estimated my profit would be $1,200 by selling 100 t-shirts. I should have known, though! Time and again, my family and friends astound me with overwhelming love and support.

We surpassed my goal of 100 shirts 3 days before the fundraiser even ended, and the final count is 122! An amazing 100 supporters destroyed my $1,200 goal by buying shirts and making general donations that total over $3,500, almost triple what I expected!

My family thanks from the bottom of our hearts all who bought t-shirts and donated. I have now raised $5,175 toward my $10,000 goal this year!

Stay tuned for information about our August fundraiser, where we will be raffling a Chromebook tablet/laptop and Beats earphones!

June 2017 Nathan B. Marti Memorial Scholarship T-Shirt Fundraiser

If you find any of my posts helpful, please consider supporting Nathan's memorial scholarship by purchasing a t-shirt from now until June 19, 2017. You also may make a general donation. Please help me reach my $10,000 scholarship fundraising goal for 2017!

I formed the Nathan B. Marti Memorial Scholarship in honor of Nathan at his alma mater, Radford University. Each year, the scholarship benefits an undergraduate student who embodies Nathan's time at Radford by being involved in a social fraternity/sorority and demonstrating active community service. Preference is given to criminal justice majors.
One of Nathan’s favorite sayings, “We will be known by the tracks we leave behind,” wraps around the initials for Nathan Bradley Marti. Hopefully, people wear this shirt often, and when asked what “NBM” stands for, they can tell people about Nathan and spread a little kindness and also mindfulness about the terrible impact of drunk driving.
Thank you for your support on this, the 10th anniversary, of losing Nathan.

Another Successful Fundraiser

Wow, what a great day we had at the fundraiser! Thank you SO much to everyone who showed up for lunch, dinner, drinks, and good music. It was a great crowd, and we had a blast. The grand total raised is a little over $4,700! Dogfish Head generously donated $1,660 of that total.

The lucky iPad raffle winner is Chris McDermot of Arlington, VA. Congrats to Chris!

I'd especially like to thank Naz Dizeyee for her hard work collecting restaurant gift cards for the raffle; my sister Adrienne Mills and Beth Via for being raffle ticket selling machines; the wonderful silent auction donors; and everyone who donated their time and money to make this event a success.

My awesome friends in the band Compliments of George rocked it out at the end of the night, too!

Can't wait to see you all next time :)

Tie One on for Safety

Here is my speech for the MADD Tie One on for Safety Campaign kickoff press conference in Alexandria, VA, on December 21, 2010. I tell Nathan's story and how the decisions of a drunk driver ruined our holidays, and all days, for the rest of our lives.

Have a fun, but safe New Year's!

Death is Nothing At All

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room.

Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone.

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
